November 24, 2017
Africa is huge, like seriously, it’s a vast continent that’s so varied and filled with a melting pot of cultures, identities, beautiful nature and history. It’s a content that has so much diversity that is sometimes forgotten when we hear ‘Africa’ mentioned as a place to go to. It really is hard to bottle down the essence of Africa into a singular destination, even though we see this happen time and time again on television, radio and print.
Thankfully, travelling opens all of our eyes to these naiveties and makes us appreciate how wonderfully diverse the continent of Africa is. Whether you’re dreaming of white sandy beaches, cosmopolitan cities like Cape Town, Visiting the Atlas Mountains of Morocco or getting up close to the big five on safari , Africa is sure to have a place on your travel bucket list.
The world’s second-largest continent has a lot to offer even the most seasoned of travellers. Take a look at some of the very best countries to visit in Africa this year!

1) Botswana
Botswana is a real jewel of Africa in terms of wildlife and natural land. As a country, it’s committed to wildlife and environmental conservation, making it the ideal country to visit if you’re interested in African wildlife. The Okavango Delta, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and Chobe National Park are just a few of the places you can head for a safari. Whether you come here for the hiking and kayaking or to enjoy some of its rich cultures, Malawi is a country of amazing beauty.

3). Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
The Mount Kilimanjaro has placed Tanzania for the second time among the countries with exceptional travel attractions in Africa. It is the largest mountain in Africa and one of the best tourist attractions for adventure travel. It offers a dream mountain hiking and its dormant volcanic cones is probably nothing to be so worried about. If you would love to ascend to the highest point in Africa, get ready for mount Kilimanjaro which stands at 19,340 feet (5896m) and will take you 6 days to climb.

4). SAHARA DUNES IN MOROCCO

The Sahara is mostly impassible due to its unfriendly climate and frequent sand storms. Lucky for you, there is an access point to the desert from the northern edge of Morocco in the town of Zagora that is more friendly than others.
From here, take a camel safari into the dunes, camp out for the night, and let the local Saharawi men entertain you with drums and singing around the campfire while gazing at the stars.

5). CAPE TOWN IN SOUTH AFRICA

With Table Mountain, Cape Town is South Africa’s most urban and civilized city. To those that call it home, they call it “Mother City”.
Start your morning with a bit of mountain hiking, hit some surf by early afternoon, feel the pulse of the street markets and then find yourself sipping a glass of wine and having a world-class meal as the sun sets.

6). Seychelles
Seychelles has a reputation as one of the world’s most idyllic places to visit and it’s easy to see why. If you ‘re looking to do more than just lie back and relax on the beach, there’s plenty to explore. Many of its smaller islands have been protected as national parks, showcasing the heritage and beauty of this slice of paradise.
Make sure to visit the unbelievably gorgeous, Curieuse Island and snorkel the beautiful Sainte Anne Marine National Park.

7) Madagascar
Madagascar is Africa’s largest island and with so much to see and do, it can be hard to pinpoint a mere few. Make sure to explore the unbelievably beautiful, Avenue of the Baobabs, Ranomafana National Park and the gorgeous Isalo National Park.
For a little history, make a stop at the UNESCO World Heritage sight of Ambohimanga, a fortified Royal settlement that’s pretty close to the capital. The Malagasy locals are warm and welcoming, the coastline is breathtaking, and to round it off, it’s the only place in the world you can see wild
lemurs in their natural habitat.

8) Gambia
Gambia is a beautiful (and relatively small country to visit) when it comes to Africa. Like most of the other countries on this list, Gambia has an abundant wildlife population that’s just too good to miss.
If you visit Kiang West National Park and Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve you can see monkeys, hippos, hyenas, leopards and several species of rare bird. The vibrant capital of Banjul is also great to visit too, with its fascinating National Museum of Gambian history, and the beaches aren’t far away either… in fact, they’re famed in Gambia.

9) Zanzibar
Zanzibar, located in the Indian Ocean just off the coast of Tanzania, it is one of the top 10 Africa’s top tourist destinations largely due to the fact that it has got a very fascinating history and unbelievably beautiful beaches. It was one of the regions in Africa where the stone age was highly established and it became a wealthy and advanced region, which consisted of many autonomous merchant cities. Zanzibar was well-known for spices and ivory and part of its history was that it was a major hub during the era of slave trade.
The Stone Town of Zanzibar is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the island’s biggest attractions boasting of lovely traditional houses, narrow alleyways, a Sultan’s palace and many mosques. You’ll enjoy clear, shallow sandbars perfect for wading, turquoise-blue water; and many small, nearly deserted islands.

10. Omo River Region, Ethiopia.

The Omo river region is an area in the Southwestern Ethiopia and home to more than 50 different tribes. If you love African culture, you should pay this place a visit because of its huge cultural heritage. It is still a place in Africa where much of traditional customs and beliefs are very much intact for most of the tribes and this has made it an enchanting tourist attraction for those interested in African culture. The region is quite remote and is hardly accessible by vehicle. The warriors would often sling Kalashnikovs (riffle) slung across their backs. This can be a bit disconcerting but the tribes are friendly and this is often the only western accessory you’ll see them wear.

Healthiest Sleeping Postures?

November 22, 2017
What are the Healthiest Sleeping Postures?

Everybody has their favourite sleeping position. However, some are better for you than others.
Best Sleeping Position
Try to sleep in a position that helps you
maintain the curve in your lower back. We recommend lying on your back with a pillow under your knees (if more comfortable) or on your side with your knees slightly bent.
It is preferable to not sleep on your side with your knees drawn up to your chest (the foetal position). However, having said that some back conditions will find this preferable. You should seek the advice of your physiotherapist if you are in doubt.
If you are suffering back pain, you could try lying over a lumbar roll or peanut cushion at night to make you more comfortable. A rolled sheet or towel tied around your waist may also be helpful.
You may wish to avoid sleeping on your stomach, especially on a saggy mattress. This can cause back strain and can be uncomfortable for your neck.
Best Mattress
Select a firm mattress or an ensemble that does not sag. If necessary, place a board under your mattress. You can also place the mattress on the floor temporarily if necessary. If you've always slept on a soft surface, it may be initially painful to change to a harder surface. Try to do what's most comfortable for you.
Rising from Bed
When standing up from the lying position, turn on your side, draw up both knees and swing your legs over the side of the bed. Sit up by pushing yourself up with your hands. Bend forward at your waist with your core muscles activated.
Best Pillow
The human neck curves slightly forward (to sustain the weight of the head when upright), and it is very important to maintain this curve when in a resting position. If the height of the pillow is too high or low when sleeping, your neck is bent abnormally out of alignment, causing muscle and joint strain. You can even wake with headaches.
Poor pillow support can also cause narrowing of the air pipe, resulting in obstructed breathing, and sometimes snoring, which can hinder sleep.
The best lying or sleeping position may vary, depending on your symptoms. No matter what position you lie in, the pillow should be under your head, but not your shoulders, and should be a thickness that allows your head to be in a normal position.
To give your body the proper rest it needs, and to ensure the health of your spine, physiotherapists recommend only two sleeping positions:
Sleeping Tips
Sleeping on your side, with the spine straight. (as shown)

Sleeping on your back, maintaining the primary curvature of the cervical spine. (as shown)

Both of these positions prevent poor alignment of the neck and upper back.
Proper alignment can help to reduce the number of neck aches, back aches, pinched nerves, shoulder and arm referred pain, insomnia, and mental fatigue from a lack of effective sleep.

Teenager electrocuted by faulty phone charger

November 21, 2017
A teenage girl has

died in Vietnam after being electrocuted in her sleep by her faulty iPhone charging cable.
Le ThiXoan, 14, had reportedly rolled over onto the torn cable and had as a result been exposed to the live wire, police in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, said.
She was found unconscious by her parents and rushed to a local hospital; however, doctors were unable to revive her, pronouncing her dead shortly after.
Police found the burnt cable on her bed and believe a slight tear in the rubber casing may have revealed the live wires inside.
According to odditycentral.com, the police believe the girl had plugged her Apple device into charge and laid it on her bed like she did every night. They said tragedy likely struck as she slept and rolled onto the iPhone’s charging cable, which electrocuted her with the current.
The charging cable is being inspected but the authorities said they are yet to determine whether it was the original Apple wire or a third-party device.

Soldiers chain man to motorcycle in Lagos, drag him on street

regain the use of his left eye.
The injury was allegedly inflicted on him by soldiers, who also dragged him on the street.
It was said that the girlfriend of one of the soldiers had a disagreement with Lukman’s younger brother, Saheed Lambo.
Saheed and the lady, identified simply as Dasola, were neighbours on Itulubajo Lane, Alhaji Street, Ikorodu.
We learnt that the duo were lovers, until a few weeks ago when a disagreement over money strained their relationship.
Our correspondent gathered that some residents clashed around 11am on Saturday, November 11, in the house where Saheed lives.
It was said that Dasola went to watch the altercation.
Saheed was said to have rebuked her for poking her nose into a situation that did not concern her.
At about 5pm on that day, Dasola reportedly led her soldier boyfriend in company with three other soldiers to Saheed’s residence.
The soldiers did not meet Saheed at home, but they descended on his elder brother, Lukman, who was on a visit.
The victim told our correspondent that one of the soldiers believed to be Dasola’s boyfriend rained blows on his face.
He said he was handcuffed to a motorcycle while one of the soldiers rode the bike and dragged him on the street.
Lukman said the soldiers left him when blood started coming out from his eyes.
He said, “Where Saheed lives is our family house, but I don’t reside there. I went to the house and someone told me that Saheed had a fight with a lady who had gone to call soldiers to beat him up.
“The person added that the soldiers might kill him and I asked him why they would kill him, not knowing they were already behind me. They were four in number and three of them were in army uniform without tags.
“They beat me up and in the process, the one that is befriending the lady hit me on the face. They handcuffed me to a motorcycle and dragged me on the street.
“People begged them to leave me, but they refused. They should be from Odogunyan barracks. I can identify them if I see them.
“Doctors at the Ikorodu General Hospital, where I was admitted, said I might have to undergo a surgery. I have spent a lot of money on the eye.”
Our correspondent learnt that the case was reported at the Igbogbo Police Station and Dasola had been arrested.
Saheed explained that a week before the incident, he had taken Dasola to an inn in the community.
He said after the date, he gave her N1,500, but she rejected it, insisting that she would collect N2,500.
Saheed said, “She later collected the N1,500, but tore my clothes. Afterwards, she would abuse me whenever she saw me. On Saturday, November 11, my friends fought in our compound and she came. I told her she was nosy.
“We abused each other and she left and later came back with the soldiers to intimidate me.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde-Famous Cole, confirmed the assault.
He said, “Investigations commenced after the case was reported. The lady was arrested for conspiring with the soldiers to assault the man. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
“The Divisional Police Officer found out that the suspects were from an army barracks. We have to write to the Nigerian Army to report their conduct and get them identified so that they could be brought to book.”

Boosts Immune System
Oranges and orange juice have long been known as a powerhouse of healing properties, and one of the richest sources of vitamin C that you can add to your diet. A single serving of orange juice has more than 200% of the vitamin C requirement of the body. Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, functions as a primary antioxidant in the body, and it destroys or neutralizes free radicals before they can do damage to the body. Our body needs vitamin C to stimulate other aspects of our immune system as well. Furthermore, ascorbic acid is one of the fundamental components of collagen, which is necessary to repair cells and for the growth of new tissues in the body.

Contains Healing Properties:
One of the top health benefits of orange juice is its healing properties. Oranges contain flavonoids (like naringenin and hesperidin), which are anti-inflammatory stuffs ( 3 ). When you consume this yummy fruit in raw or juice form, the flavonoids work amazingly to treat the arthritis and heal the stiffness and pain.

Source of vitamin C
You may be familiar with the benefits of vitamin C to ward off a cold, but vitamin C is much more important than just that. Vitamin C is best absorbed by the body through food and beverage form, as it cannot be synthesized by the human body. Two glasses of orange juice a day can increase vitamin C concentration within your body by 40 to 64 percent.
Vitamin C is beneficial as it helps fight off free radicals that can contribute to early aging and helps the absorption of other essential nutrients as well, including iron and calcium.

Prevention of kidney stones
Kidney stones are well known for being a highly painful condition, so if you want to ward them off, it’s best that you get sipping on some orange juice. Orange juice contains citric acid and citrates, which are believed to help reduce the risk of kidney stones. Furthermore, potassium citrate is often prescribed to kidney stone patients as treatment and the citrates found in oranges have been found to have similar effects.

Lowers Blood Pressure
Hesperidin, in orange juice, is an antioxidant, which means that it protects the body against diseases and cancer, but this water-soluble plant compound also impacts the activity and functioning of small blood vessels. This can have a major impact on blood pressure as a whole, and research has connected this powerful antioxidant to a reduction in overall blood pressure and a decreased chance of cardiovascular diseases.

Radiant skin
Orange juice is packed with antioxidants – this so far has been made quite clear – and these antioxidants can also leave you with radiant skin. Antioxidants fight off free radicals, and those found in orange juice can protect your skin from sun damage and pollution, prevent wrinkles, and improve overall skin texture.
Additionally, vitamin C plays a role in the formation of collagen, which gives our skin that youthful look. Therefore, drink up for some beautiful-looking skin!

How to Make Orange Juice in an easy way

November 20, 2017

How to Make Orange Juice
There is nothing as satisfying as a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. It may take a couple minutes longer than you expect.  Try it out: Make some and see if you want to go back to drinking bottled juice again!
1.Squeezing Orange Juice by Hand
Soften the orange. Tightly squeeze or roll the oranges firmly with the palm of your hand across the counter or table to soften them up.
2.Cut the orange. Slice the orange in half and remove the seeds. If you want to go seedless, use navel oranges.
3.Juice the orange. Grip the one of the orange halves tightly and squeeze it by hand, using a plain juicer to coax all the juice out.
4.Add pulp. Scrape the orange with a spoon and add the pulp directly to the juice if you use a hand juicer. If you prefer clear juice, pour the juice through a strainer before drinking.Add some pinch of black salt or sugar for more flavor. Some oranges are already sweet.
5.Drink up! Enjoy a crisp, cold glass of freshly squeezed, unpasteurized orange juice, the way it was intended to be!

                    OR

Just take the fruit and roll it against a hard surface with the heel of your hand to soften it slightly. This motion helps break the membranes that contain the juice within, and make for easier squeezing. Then cut the citrus in half along the widest part of the equator. (Yeah, this all seems incredibly simple, but you see people trying to juice orange quarters and you realize you can't just go assuming, ya know?)
Grab a fork and a bowl. Lightly poke the cut surface all over with the tines of the fork. Then holding the citrus in one hand, pick a spot toward the center of the fruit, plunge the fork in and twist it to release the juice into the bowl below. Moving in a circle out toward the edge of the peel, repeat this motion until there's no more juice to be squeezed. Then move on to the other half. Mildly tedious? Indeed—but highly effective. You won't waste a drop.
From here, you can fork out any seeds, and remove the pulp using a colander or a fine mesh strainer, or just go ahead and chug it chunky-style. This method is also highly effective with other kinds of citrus come summertime should you choose to set up a lemonade stand on your sidewalk. Call it "artisanally hand-squeezed." Charge $5. You've earned it. Maybe buy a juicer with all that extra cash.

Oatmeal
You may have noticed a heart-shaped seal on your box of oatmeal recently. The seal's there because oats contain beta-glucan, a type of fiber that's been shown to help lower cholesterol when eaten regularly. Need another reason to dig in? Oats are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, folate , and
potassium .
Steel-cut oats, which take about 15 minutes to cook, contain more fiber than rolled oats or instant varieties, but any type of oatmeal is a healthy choice. Just avoid the flavored kinds, which can be packed with sugar. Instead, sweeten your bowl with milk and a bit of honey, and top with fruit and nuts.

Berries
Berries are high in fiber and low in calories. They're also rich in antioxidants that may decrease the risk of disease.

Wheat germ
A little wheat germ goes a long way. Just two tablespoons provides about 15% of your recommended daily intake of vitamin E and 10% of your daily folate. "Vitamin E is often a little low in people's diets, so this is a good way to add in some extra—especially if you don't eat a lot of nuts or seeds, two other big sources," Giovinazzo says.
It's easy to incorporate wheat germ into almost any meal, including your go-to breakfasts: Sprinkle it over cereal, stir it into yogurt, or mix it into a smoothie .

Bananas
There's nothing like a banana at breakfast to keep those mid-morning cravings at bay. The yellow fruit—especially when they're still a touch green—are one of the best sources of
resistant starch , a healthy carbohydrate that keeps you feeling fuller longer.
"Slice it up and add it to cereal or oatmeal," Giovinazzo suggests. "It will add natural sweetness, so you may not need additional sugar."
Thanks to a healthy dose of potassium , an electrolyte that helps lower blood pressure naturally , bananas are a particularly good choice for people with hypertension.

Green tea
Green tea has many health benefits. It contains an antioxidant called EGCG, which has benefits for the brain and nervous system.

Cottage Cheese
A muscle-building powerhouse, cottage cheese contains 25 grams of protein per cup. In a 2015 University of Missouri study, dieters who ate a high-protein breakfast (35 grams of protein) ended up being less hungry and eating fewer calories throughout the rest of the day compared to those who ate low-protein breakfasts. Opt for full-fat, grass-fed varieties to get the most conjugated linoleic acid per spoonful. White explains that the fatty acid has been linked to weight loss , muscle development, and even a decreased risk of
colorectal cancer in women .

Nut Butter
"This is a quick and easy option for when you don't have a lot of time," says Sheth. Spread it on some toast (more on the best pick for bread later) or mix it into your Greek yogurt or
oatmeal. A spoonful provides a perfect blend of protein, antioxidants, and heart-healthy fats. In fact, people who eat nuts every day are 29 percent less likely to die of heart disease and 11 percent less likely to die of cancer.

Most Popular Foods in Nigeria That Will Make You Beg For More

November 18, 2017

Nigeria is a blessed country. We are blessed with diverse rich culture and food. Nigerians both at home and the diaspora always love their food because of how unique and delicious it is. You are free to add to the list because this list is based on my research. Feel free to salivate…. It’s allowed.

RICE AND STEW
This happens to be my second favourite meal funny enough. It is called Sunday food by most people because although people prepare rice and stew on a normal day, it is most commonly prepared on Sundays.
The rice is boiled white and served with stew made from tomatoes and other ingredients. I did a research on how different people prepare stew and it turns out that there are different ways of making stew.
But 70% of Nigerians prepare is with tomato, onion, vegetable oil/palm oil. It’s definitely one of the most popular foods in Nigeria.

POUNDED YAM
Pounded yam is one of the most popular foods in Nigeria. What Nigerian man hates pounded yam? We don’t joke with our pounded yam.
It is best served with delicious soups like ukazi soup, eguisi soup, ogbono soup, oha soup, afang soup, I can go on and on but I am pretty sure you get the picture I am trying to paint.
Where I come from, the yam is pounded together with plantain and palm oil. Eat this dish I doubt u will be hungry for hours because it is filling. It is called onunu.

BEANS AND DODO
Beans and dodo is one of the most popular foods in Nigeria. Dodo is also called fried plantain. Ask most guys now in Nigeria what their best meal is, they will gladly tell you it is beans and dodo.
I was shocked when I was watching an interview on tv, a South African that visited Nigeria was asked his favourite meal in Nigeria and he said beans and plantain.

GARRI
Or eba as most people will call it is very popular in Nigeria. This dish made from cassava is something every Nigerian must have had in one way or another. Garri is best served with soup, beans, or just with milk and groundnut.

INDOMIE NOODLES
Indomie, loved by kids, ladies mostly, few guys is another meal that is well known in Nigeria.
Although it is an already processed food but does it really matter for the sake of this list?
Lol. Some people call it a lazy man’s food because it is prepared in less than 5 minutes. This facts made indomie one of the most popular foods in Nigeria.

AKARA BALLS
Akara is just a deap fried bean cake. It is filled with protein and is best taken with pap (made from grounded corn). Most people love taking akara with bread.

Efo riro is a very rich vegetable soup, popularised by the Yorubas. It is filled with assorted meat. Made with pumpkin leaves. Has great nutritive value and absolutely delicious.

BOLI (ROASTED PLANTAIN)
Have tasted the boli from Port Harcourt? Boli and roasted peppered fish is a very delicious meal. It is well known in the southern Nigeria, Port Harcourt to be precise. Boli also goes well with groundnut.

GALA AND LACASERA
I have said a lot about our local dishes, it’s time to visit this great snack. Although its not really food but the relationship between gala and lacasera has been going strong. It has passed the test of time..lol. These two are made for each other. I put this on the list because it is even more popular than some dishes here.

AFANG SOUP
Afang soup is a delicious meal prepared with ukazi leaves and waterleaf. It is a rich vegetable soup popular in south-south of Nigeria.
